Home / Marine Qualification of Valve position indicator

CM Techno helps the customer in shock compliance assessment of rotary & linear valve position indicators
Requirement

The valve position indicator to be validated to withstand the severe shock loads. Compliance standard Naval Shock Standard Grade I and acceptance criteria to Naval standard BR 3021

Case study

The 3D model of the valve position indicator was generated. The modal and shock analysis was carried out in all three mutually perpendicular direction for the given shock value in terms of g load Vs Time in ms and material properties were assigned.
Using FEA simulation, the acceptable shock stress was arrived at based on the material specification and as per standards. The simulation results were compared with acceptable values. Deflection due to shock load also verified. And adequacy of clearance between moving and stationary parts was also verified.
In order to meet the shock capability design modifications were recommended and after obtaining the customer concurrence, the same was revalidated for its compliance including fasteners.

Activities done by CM Techno
  • Design calculation
  • Design validation
  • Structural optimisation
Benefits

Saving in cost and time over actual physical shock testing of initial prototype model and thereafter redesign of areas needing improvement
